The favorite child of the music world, Imagine Dragons, released Night Visions, their debut album, on September 4th, 2012. Who would know that this album has been out so long (seriously, you can stop being successful whenever your ready, dudes). Hit after hit, this band has been swimming in fame and glory. After hearing Night Visions, however, I feel close to drowning.
With three successful hits off of Night Visions (It’s Time, Demons, and the wub wub Radioactive), you would absolutely be stoked to see the contents of this album. I mean, seriously, acclaimed producer Alex Da Kid ( B.o.b’s “Airplanes” and Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie” for the win) worked with this group to create this bitch. Alex Da Kid’s 5 tracks, including Radioactive and Demons, are brilliant. The rest of the tracks, however, are a bit of a snooze.
Don’t get me wrong, this band is talented. And they worked with an incredible talent to create some of the best singles to hit this year. But they have all the love songs accounted for, all the sap is there (the song Every Night pretty much sums it up, if you plan to attempt to sit through it). Every song is overly glam, and I am convinced they are wannabe rock stars (they are actually just overly pop-tastic, very similar to Owl City).
So the bottom-line? The singles are where it’s at. Aside from the other few gems on this album, you really could pass up on listening to the whole thing (who wants to listen to 16 songs on an album, really). Take my word for it.
OVERALL RATING: A Solid “Meh!”
SONGS TO LOOK OUT FOR: Radioactive, Demons, On Top Of The World, Bleeding Out.
